A Theme?

I've been asked before if our wedding has a "theme?"

"No. No, not really." This has always been my reply.

Until now. I think I can answer this question differently today and from this point on.

Last night, Christopher and I revisited our late night excursions to Barnes and Noble. A favorite pastime of mine. There's no better thing for me than scouring through books in a quiet store and then finding ourselves reading picture books aloud in a little nook of the children's section.

Sitting next to each other I not only found myself listening to him mouth the words from his chosen book, but also recalling other moments in our past.

Like sitting side by side all those days and nights on the front step of the Gatz House; and sometimes, when the night sky was just perfect we'd look through the tree branches above us and at the moon who seems to always watch over us.
Or,

like the time when we drove out to the one public library that was open on a holiday, just to picnic beneath a tree whilst reading a book.

This is my other favorite thing (or things i should say): a shady tree.

We've often walked upon paths beneath canopies of trees. I think I've gotten him quite fascinated with the magic of great trees.

I suppose that's how The Shady Tree was born - then reborn.

So, our theme:

Everything we love beneath a shady tree - including our guests, to whom we're pleased to share all this love for everything and each other.

Woot Woot! It's been a year!

We kicked off our ANNIVERSARY week at Deep Creek Lake, courtesy the Wargos.

Sleeping in a tent, being lazy on the boat, playing in the water on a tube and skis, smore-ing by the fire, eating on the deck, fishing off the dock, paddling a kayak, soaking in the hot tub, playing YAHTZEE, SORRY,
keeping busy with a BARREL OF MONKEYS, firing off a potato gun, and just living out of our swimming suits ... these are the most of what we did on that long weekend.

oh how we miss it!

but, the lake trip ended well late Sunday night and we spent the following day in Baltimore with the kiddies. the zoo and port discovery ... such fun places, well-behaved and enthusiastic kids, how could we NOT have a good day?!

We were out and about the whole day and the kids were thrilled that Christopher had an "out of the office day so he can take us to Baltimore," as Gabby says.

Tuesday, July 15 - our anniversary day - we both took an out of the office day to be with each other; and we spent it with a lazy morning followed by a picnic lunch at Oatlands.

YES, Oatlands Plantation where our September reception will be held. Here's a couple more reception venue teasers.

Enjoy and See You All Soon!

how's this for a shady tree?

ps - our first anniversary was wonderful and ended with
a bottle of champagne, a romantical dinner and a plethora of desserts

these and those

BIG NEWS!!!!

we've begun our registries.

the first one we got started is at Macy's, and that very evening we left the store with SIX items on our list. Woohoo. four towels, and two different serving dishes.
THEN the next day, we were informed that those towels we've chosen are discontinued items.

wah.

our second go was at Crate and Barrel. we spent approximately 2 hours there, and came out with TWELVE items (well 19 if you want to count the glasses per).

a week or so later, we returned to Macy's and now have successfully registered for about 20 or so things.

creating registries, we've been told by many, is supposed to be a super fun part of the planning. we had a good time, sure; but, we really had a tough time finding things we NEED or would like to accumulate.

we are still planning on heading back to Crate and Barrel sometime.

but for now, there's Macy's, Crate and Barrel, and Simplicity Gourmet (cookware that we've chosen to go with -
call Katie at 866-897-7676).

Yes, they're in ... but not completed. We'll have them out soon, though.
